A Hannah's Tale

...in which I tell you that I'm not in Africa yet. No, I'm still baking brownies in Park City, Utah. About as far away as you can be from Nairobi, Kenya, which is where I'm heading on August 27. Yes! August 27! So soon! Not soon enough!

So this is my travel blog, which I hope to update regularly when I'm abroad. I'll be in Africa from the end of August to mid-December, and I'll have (pretty reliable) access to the Internet. I can't wait for this crazy, amazing semester, and I can't wait to share it with my family and friends!

On the right, there's an entry field that says "Follow by E-mail." If you think that you'll love my blog posts so much that you'll await the next with breathless anticipation, enter your e-mail so you can receive my updates the very second I press publish! And, about 2 posts later, when you realize that you greatly overestimated my interestingness quotient, I'm sure you can un-subscribe as well. NEVER FEAR!

The title of this blog is an allusion to one of the greatest travel stories ever told -- The Lord of the Rings series. After being uprooted from a quiet life, Bilbo Baggins writes of his tales in a book titled "There and Back Again: A Hobbit's Tale." While I am not on a quest to destroy a magic ring in the fires of Kilimanjaro, I love the idea that a journey can reveal things about yourself that no one would have guessed.

Here's to four months, and a lifetime, of adventure!
